Simonsdale Students Using Practice Planet at Home

Posted in Uncategorized on December 17, 2008 by lisabaun

When you attempt to use our free trial of “Practice Planet” at home, please use the following site to login:

http://va324.practiceplanet.com/App/login.jsp

Students need to use their Accelerated Reader Username and Password is their student number/lunch number.  Logins are case sensitive.  I believe that all names begin with a capital letter–if they also have a last initial-it will be capital also.  Students who have similar names will always have a last initial on their username.  An example might be the name James Snow.  If the school had multiple James–the username would be JamesS.  The students in 3rd and 4th grade received cards with this information and many wrote their usernames and passwords on the back of the card.

Practice Planet is a great way to prepare and learn for the end of the year SOLs.  in areas where the student is weak, the program will assign appropriate lessons.  The students seem to like the format–it is engaging and fun.

New Avatar Represents TRT Role

Posted in Uncategorized on December 16, 2008 by lisabaun

Many of the new blogs at CAES & SES now have annimated avatar.  I helped several of the teachers creat their avatars t meez.com.  Thank you “Ruth the Oracle” for setting me straight in avatar creation.

One of the teachers at CAES insisted that I chose the “WonderWoman” avatar.  I seldom feel like WonderWoman-more like the “Thing” in the “Fantastic Four”–pushing and shoving until everything gets done.  Because of this philosophy, I added big dinosaur feet to show even though you have energy and some powere–there always can be outside forces which inhibit the completion of your goals.

Star Testing Reports

Posted in Accelerated Reader on September 18, 2007 by lisabaun

Here are the instructions from Ms. Thomas concerning the retrieval of information from student Star Tests:

To view reports from STAR testing:
Go onto Internet Explorer
Under Favorites, choose Renaissance Place
Log in as teacher
Scroll down to STAR Reading
Click on Reports
Click on Summary
Choose your class from the drop down menu
Click on View Report
When the report comes up on the screen, click on the Adobe icon printer button
This will print a report of your entire class at a glance. You will see the GE (Grade Equivalent score) and the ZPD. The ZPD is the zone for Accelerated Reader books. Start the students at the bottom of the range. I usually give them a .5 range (for example 3.0 – 3.5 or 2.7 – 3.1). Monitor the AR tests and move them up or down accordingly.

If you want to see an individual student’s report, you will click on Diagnostic instead of Summary.
Then you will click on See Individual Student. A list of all students in the school will appear. Check the box/boxes of the students that you wish to print. Then click Save, View Report, and print from the Adobe icon printer button. The individual student report will have some helpful reading information for you about Accelerated Reader strategies.
