Where did the time go?
The students’ first day back for the 2009-2010 school year is Tuesday, September 8, 2009 and I have not blogged about my Summer School experience with the high school teachers and students. I enjoyed working with the teachers and sharing ideas on ways they could integrate technology in their lessons. I assisted the teacher who was piloting the English 9 online hybrid class when she needed me. Everything was going well until the custodians decided to clean the floors in the room that was designated for this online class. They removed all computers and furniture and did not plug the power cords and network cables back the way they needed to be for the next day when the floor was dry. The students returned the next day and had to be placed in another room that had been upgraded to Office 2007 and they were using Office 2003. They also did not have access to their Movie Maker or video files that they saved on the desktop of the computers that were in the room that the custodians cleaned.
The students did very well adjusting to the change and the teacher did an awesome job too. The summer school librarian was also very helpful.
Even-though I substituted for a short time, I am so thankful that I had the experience of working with the high school students and teachers. Elementary and secondary are two different worlds.
After summer school, I had to prepare for grade-book training to learn what’s new. I am looking forward to assisting my buildings with grade-book. I know that it will be very challenging; however, I am prepared for the challenge.
After grade-book training, I volunteered to assist with the new teacher orientation. We showed the new teachers all of the different technology that is available for integration in the classroom. It was very successful.
It is hard to believe that all teachers reported to school on Monday, August 31, 2009. ActivInspire training, Discovery Education training, Grade-book training, Microsoft Office 2007 training, Quia Training, Wiki Training and more…
Am I up to the challenge? Yes, I am.
It has been a while since I have posted on my blog. I have been very busy assisting my teachers at both of my buildings. TSIP Online Course, PBS Teacherline Courses, VT Courses and much much more have filled up my calendar before, during and/or after school.
Now it is time to get ready for TEACH Academy. Thank you to all of my teachers that have signed up for sessions. You will have a wonderful time!
I am assisting with the GPS session on Monday, June 22, 2009. I will be presenting “A Day of Discovery” session on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. I am assisting with the ”IBlog, You Blog” session on Wednesday, June 24, 2009.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Wilson High School.

The singing group: “2 Hot 2 Handle”.
I had an opportunity to work with 4 wonderful gifted and talented students on podcasting a song that they created after gathering information about Walt Disney, Thurgood Marshall, Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King.
Mr. Trewartha, gifted and talented teacher, did an awesome job editing the podcast.

My summer has been very busy. I have survived the teacher camp the week of June 18, 2007. During the camp, I worked with some excellent teachers and their final projects were awesome. To find out more information about the teacher camp, please take time to check out the Get It W.R.I.T.E. the Sequel Blog: www.ppsblogs.net/write2.
During the week of July 16, 2007, I had an opportunity to work with some terrific kids from several different elementary schools in Portsmouth. They created some fantastic resources for Jamestown Settlement. To see some of their final projects, please go to the blog for Tech Cadet Boot Camp: www.ppsblogs.net/Tech_Cadet_Boot_Camp.
