Digital Storytelling with DE Streaming

This workshop sets the groundwork for using digital narratives as learning experiences for your students. Participants will see how a digital story is pieced together using videos, images, and sounds to create a story that is crafted to be both engaging and informative. Using several examples as a springboard, we will learn each step of the process from storyboarding to resource selection to the use of available technology to pull the pieces together into a coherent product. Participants will be given time to create their own digital stories to use in their classrooms as instructional tools and exemplars. This workshop is designed not only to teach participants how to create a digital story, but to show them how to guide their students through the process, too.

Participants will learn how to use each website, what best practice use of each website looks like in a classroom, how to use the pacing guide to determine which website has appropriate activities and how to design an instructional activity for students using each website.

Why Do Teachers Have Behavior Problems?

Because they do NOT ENGAGE their students, take a look at this video:

Another reason is because teachers don’t realize that they are constantly reinforcing negative behaviors instead of positive behaviors. I was so impressed when I walked into one of my buildings sixth grade class and observed that the teacher was giving checks on the board for students who were demonstrating positive behaviors. I am so use to observing teachers writing names on the board of students who are doing inappropriate behaviors.

Why do so many teachers not understand to get respect from the students they need to show respect to the students and that they genially care for the students?

VSRA Conference 2010

Wow! Another Conference has come and gone. I had the opportunity to attend and present again at the Virginia State Reading Association Conference. The conference was held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on March 11-13, 2010. The theme was:

The first concurrent session I went to on Friday, March 12, 2010 was called “Using Wikis, Photo Stories and Blabbers to Engage Reluctant Readers”. The presenters shared how to access free web applications, how to use wiki, photo stories and avatars to promote student writing and create an online community with parents.

The next session I went to was called “Sailing Into Literacy with Ramona Quimby and Voyage of the Dawn Treader”. Randy Testa with Walden Media talked about how to use the printed media (novels) with the non-printed electronic media (films, the Internet) to enhance a comprehensive school wide literacy program.

He announced that “Beezus and Ramona” the movie was coming out in July 2010 and “The Chronicles of Narnia: the Voyage of the Dawn Treader” the movie was coming out in December 2010. Click on the link for more information: http://www.walden.com/

ActivVirginia Promethean Educators Conference 2010

On Saturday, March 6, 2010, I attended the ActivVirginia Promethean Educators Conference. It was a well prepared conference.
