I was absolutely thrilled when Mrs. Perry-Wallace asked me to come and teach her first graders to skip count. I did skip counting with Mrs. Taxson’s class last year. This year I wanted to do something a little different. I used my wireless keyboard and mouse to let the students run portions of the PowerPoint and the web based interactive activities that we worked on. If you have an idea for a lesson, let me know. According to the Computer Learning Foundation, Computer Learning Month is celebrated each October. It is a time for focusing attention on the important role computers, software and other technologies play in our lives, particularly in our children’s learning and their future. During computer learning month we can encourage children to try new ways of using technology, to learn about new technology products, and to share their knowledge about how to use technology with others. Computer learning month is the perfect time to focus on the Basic Operation and Concepts strand of the computer/technology standards for Virginia’s public schools.
